I was having the Battlefield 1942 always messing up my desktop icons, Cause i run my desktop at 1024 by 768. So, I hacked the video config. file in the game, and it does not do it anymore.
here is what i did..
1. If you did a default install, go to..
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Settings\Profiles\Default
2. make a backup of video.con, and put it in a safe place
3. open video.con file with notepad
4. in there, you will see this...
rem Optimal setting for CPU < 1400 MHZ
game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 16
game.setDetailTexture 3
game.setShadows 0
game.setEnvironmentMapping 0
game.setGraphicsQuality 2
game.setLightmaps 1
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 2
game.setPerformance 2
5. in this (game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 16) change the 800 to 1024, and the 600 to 768. Exit and save changes.
This is working fine for me, But this website and I will not be held responible for any harmful effects this may cause on your system.
