Can anyone help? my brother's been trying to set up a quake server on his pc but I'm having real difficulty getting onto it - on specifying his pc address I get as far as awaiting connection/awaiting gamestate, and then nothing, it sits and waits. On the other end apparently my brother gets the message "mr thicky has joined the game" etc, I even get included on the scoreboard, but am not actually there......grrrrrrrr.
I did wonder if it was zonealarm kicking in, but surely I wouldn't even get that far? He's set the server up with "pure server: off" and "dedicated: no". Is this right? Or should it be "dedicated: internet"? I guess I missed something.
If I try to set up a server, exactly the same thing happens! And I have no problems connecting to other servers......
Any ideas appreciated!
thanks

dedicated: yes

Is what you need for it to show up on the server list. You will also have to set Zonealarm to allow it access to the internet too, or it will not go thru either. If you need any more help, please feel free to ask me.

thanks pckiller, I take it by "dedicated: yes", you mean "dedicated: internet".
(The only options I can see are "dedicated: No/LAN/internet".)

PcKiller, or anyone,
I’ve set up an excessive dedicated server for Quake 3 before, and worked fine. Now, I only seem to connect ‘LOCALHOST’ by the look of it, doesn’t show up in the list. I can play on other servers from the list. I’ve installed the latest Point Release.
Here is the basic setup [bat file] :

[ Batch File ]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
quake3.exe +set fs_game excessiveplus +set dedicated 2 +exec ffa.cfg +<myconfig +com_junkmegs 256
<myconfig>: dedicated 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
All I get now is ‘connecting to Local Host’ + <My IP address>: 27950
I figure the <My IP address>: should be the Quake server address ?
I ran the example server setup from FilePlanet with the same result.
Thanks for your time,
Les, ***email removed***
