I am wondering what kind of performance I can expect out of GTA III on a Pentium 4-2ghz with 512MB DDR ram and a GeForce 2 NV11.

Well, You have the CPU and RAM for it. You should be ok. Just don't run it with all the options maxed out at first. Start in the middle, and work your way up.
