Right now today and for tomorrow which is the best programming language to learn. The first I did was punch holes in IBM cards. Then a big time gap of many years. Familiar with Qbasic and a smattering of VB. In other words I can program "The Quick Brown Fox.... Is there a consensus on which is best?

Hi greengoose1!

Have a look at this post (http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/000019.html), there was a similar question there and several people answered.

It might make sense to learn some C first, because C syntax is almost identical to Java syntax and Javascript syntax. But don't feel like you have to be an expert in C before you move on to Java.

If you know some HTML, definitly play with Javascript - Its got to be the easiest way to write a little "Windows" program.

Basically it boils down to "where do you want to go with this?".

Goose, glad to see you are willing to do things properly. I'm lazy. I found WYSIWYG and other wizard interface programs and decided to stay there. Someday, perhaps, I'll will go about learning the languages. I imagine the limitations of these programs will eventually make me less lazy. http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Good luck with whichever you choose. When you are done, you can come back and teach me...hehe http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

greengoose1,

It has been behaving itself lately. Theoran and kallikru gave me alot of help back at VDR ME forum. They helped me weed out the start-up group and get something of a handle on this beast. Still lots more to learn before I'm comfortable with it. Handling it with kid gloves right now. Makes what I used to do to win98 look wreckless. Wait a minute...I was wreckless. http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/grin.gif
