View Full Version : Good compiler?

I am a bit confused . . .
(don't worry, this is occasionally normal)

Origionally, I was under the impression that Borland provides a very robust, stable, . . . and well, a very good compiler.

After starting a new class in C programming, our instructor recomends Microsoft's Visual C++ compiler and even goes so far as to disuade anyone from using Borland's because it isn't as good.

My questions is, what are some recommended compiler's (free or otherwise) and why?

To be, or not to be . . .

Wait, what was the question?

People get very emotional about their compilers and editors!

I've used a wide range of compilers. All the newest development environments are just incredible to an average joe like myself.

My opinion is that unless you are involved with a really complex project, any of the major compilers will suit your needs. Again, it depends on what you are developing, and it depends on the version of compiler you are using, and your target platform.

I have to admit, I haven't tried Borland's latest version, but I have tried VC++ 6.0 - WOW!

But as far as speed and robustness goes - it was always my impression that Borland has always held that title.

(just my opinion! http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif)
