I came across this site recently and there is some great advice on security and creating back-ups. Also food for thought. Check it out.
When speaking of computer systems, never use the word "secure."
- Donald H. Rumsfeld,
former U.S. Secretary of Defense
Want to protect your computer system? I'll try to help but consider the following:
Your computer can be stolen. The thief can then examine your data at his leisure. Given enough time, any security scheme can be overcome.
Court orders for access to your computer files can result from civil and criminal actions. You must remove any protection that prevents the court from reading your files.
When you're on-line you can be chosen more or less at random for a very sophisticated attack, often for no better reason than a hacker wants to demonstrate how clever he is.
Once you accept that no security is perfect, you must decide how much security you can afford. The more secure, the greater the cost in money, resources and inconvenience to legitimate users.
