I was just browsing arstechnica (http://www.arstechnica.com/) when an article caught my eye. it is about Microsoft's new "Windows Product Activation."
For those of you who like to tinker with your hardware, you may want to have a look. Microsoft is trying to make it very hard for you to do that.
You will now have to activate a your product ID online... which will then activate your Hardware ID. if you make any signifigant changes to your box... you will not be able to boot...
If you exceed this "tolerance," you'll be stuck with a non-functioning computer until you call Microsoft, and resolve the problem.
