Help! I have two computers in my computer lab that the 3.5 floppy drives will start running periodically while the computers are on but not in use. I have searched through all the settings and just cannot determine what is making the drives run. The drives will not quit running until a disk is inserted. The grinding sound of these drives are driving me crazy and I know it can't be good for them!! Any suggestions?

Welcome. Maybe your anti virus scanner is set to scan floppy? Check your properties.JT.

Checked the scan--that's not the problem. Any other suggestions?

I get that when I open/save a file in wordperfect and one of the last 10 documents was on a floppy. Try clearing your documents list to see if that helps. You say, 'on but not is use'. Are any programs still open when that happens?
