Does anyone know if the asus A7V hates Win 2k or just my hardware? I have reinstall WIn2k twice .... and no luck on these two problems below.
This is one of two problem. My bios sees my zip drive but windows has no clue it is there. So it is hard to fix something that aint there. So how do i get Windows 2k to see my Zip drive? A bios setting I need to change maybe... I am all out of ideas.
Second problem: I install win2k drivers for my Hauppauge Wintv card. It looks great...but wait...I try to turn on my tv card and it restarts Windows 2000. Could that be a conflict with another card or something?
These two things (zip drive and tv card) works find in my old system just a couple of days ago...go figure.
I heard there is some kind of special installation procedure or some kind bs.
My system
750 athlon Tbird
asus a7v mb
prophet gts2 32mb
Hauppauge wintv card
yamaha 8432 cdrw
iomega zip 100

I figured out the zip problem after hours of frustration. If i could just get that tv card to function i would be as happy as a lark.

Ah yes the A7V and Windows 2k!!Shudddddddder!
First the good news - Once you get that A7V and the Athlon Playing nice together you are going to love it.
You will likely need to flash your BIOS but before doing so you will need to install the VIA All-in-one drivers and the Promise technology drivers. I see that you were able to get the zip going. If you are having a problem with your CD reader,(I ask because I had a devil of a time),you might take the precaution of copying the Via and Promise Drivers and theAFlash program onto a Zip disk.
Use the AFlash program that is on the CD rather than the one on the Asus site and the BIOS version you should be using is at least the 1004c but preferably 1004d.
Good Luck and don't hesitate to ask for more clarification.

Yea, i got my computer running good. I just need to find that 1004d, i flashed it with 1004a and it solved most problems. The tv card problem was irq 9 was overloaded and it could not handle all my devices. I did it all manually instead of auto.
Still Windows loads slow compared to my server.
Pretty troublesome startup board, but tested out twice as high as my old one (Abit KA7). I think i will like after i tweak it.
Thanks

Here is a link to 1004d. I'm not suprised that you had a hard time finding it. For whatever reasons Asus nearly buried the filehttp://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gifShrug)

You was not kidding i would have never found it. Thanks for the help. Could u answer one more question.
What is the best way to troubleshoot win2k. Before i installed the asus mb, win2k never (not once) crashed with my abit KA7. Now with this asus A7v Mb, it crashes randomly (like when i ran "Madonion benchmark"). Something is going on ... I notice that it stalls when loading now... or maybe i just noticed for tha first time.
Well thanks again.

Hello again Toolshed

That hesitation is the BIOS looking for the ATA 100 drivers. If you do not have anything on those channels you disable that feature in the CMOS settings. The BIOS wont hunt around for them on boot after that.

I dont think that is my problem because I disabled that option once I got the 1004a flash.
Its the "blue bar" loading screen that is stalling in Win2k.
By the way if you are looking for jobs try the Raliegh, NC area(if u are willing to move to the states). It is one of the fastest growing places in America. By the way, u might become a Hurricane instead of a Flame(I was a RedWing before we got a Team).

I get a slight pause on that blue bar too. I think it probably has to do with W2k identifying the hardware and drivers. I doubt if their is anything that can be done about it. If you use Hibernate then the drivers and the Hardware IRQ's and drivers will have been loaded and the desktop comes up a lot faster.

What did you do to correct the problem and if you didn't use the drivers on the Asus disc where did you find the appropriate driver?

I used Build version 25. That was one of the problems with the build version 19 of the Promise drivers - stalling load up.
After i tweak this board it might be alright.
Batman is running fine down, after I read that 28 page post. The only thing i cant do is run at "optimal setting" - I have to run at "normal setting" in the bios. I will figure that out soon enough i guess.
I just found that driver somewhere in that post btw.
