slots or sockets

hi all
i've decided to attempt building a pc(brave r stupid i dont know).my question is regarding motherboards.
where should i spend my money---slot 1 ,slot A ,socket 7 or socket 370.
which is the best and why?

Anything but the socket7. Then the bottom line would be money. How much do you have to spend? Pent cost more than AMD. But have heard the amds can hold thier own in certain benchmarks. Standard now is about Pent3 800MHz. The chip(FCPGA) and board can run you around $400.Look at the CUBx board by ASUS.JT.
