I am having trouble with my printer. It was messing up and not working so we reinstalled it. When we try to add printer it says "the printer can not be installed". I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me.

What WAS the printer prob before you tried the reinstall? Do you have the cd that contains the drivers for your printer? Are you running Win98? Try this: Start/settings click on printers. Now select the printer, next right click & select delete. Yes to all componets & close. Restart for this to take effect. Now place your driver cd in the cdrom & if auto insert has been selected your printer wizzard should begin, follow the menus.....Rancher

We have tried deleating and reinstalling. We have the cd and have installed off of it. I am using windows 98. When I try to add the printer it just says "error can't add printer. If I right click on my comp and go to the second tab thing, where the printer port is there is a ! on it and if I try to detect it says "couldn't detect hardware" but my printer is plugged in.

After posting here I talked to someone on a chat and they thought I should hit del during startup and change my bios settings, and see if something is trying to use my printer port. I don't know how to do this.

I don`t think bios will tell you if something is trying to use the port. You can disable the port or change the mode there. Award bios hit delete key on boot, you are looking for the parallel port(not usb right?)verify that it is enabled. There might be an address thing involved,I`ll have to check. Have you tried to remove the printer from the device manager and the reboot or hit the refresh tab?.JT.

Thanks for your help. Today my dad's friend came over, and I asked him to take a look at the printer. It took him a while but he fixed it!!
