I know what the orb looks like. Do you have a link to the volcano.JT.
I know the orb is impressive to see but there are better coolers out there.

Looks ain`t everything. I saw this one before. If I`m right you had to assemble it and there might be a slab of copper for the base. I`ve seen them both ways, w\ and w\o copper. There is one that looks like a blower with a squirrel(?)cage. It`s got silver in it, supposed to be the best heat conducter. Some of them cost up to $70. It`s always nice to hear a success story,congrats.JT.

Naw no copper, comes pre assembled, and cost like 15 bucks and its great. I know a guy with a fancy one like your talking about and it doesn't cool as good as this one. (I did hafta lap the bottom to get the heavy machine marks out and make it flat) but thats purtty easy, just takes some 600 grit sand paper and a good flat countertop and a steady hand.
And tweek thanks learn something new every day who says ya can't teach an o'l Dogg new tricks http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/grin.gif

Dogg, are those temps at idle or after a full load? Just wondering. I have a GORB on my 650 and it idles around 82* F. After running Quake3 awhile it peaks at 105*F. Had to change the properties to read in *F though. In celsius it would be 28*c idle and 44*c tops.

Hmmm...Never thought about lapping(usually done to valves and thier seats) More like milling. 600grit is fairly fine, the base ought to almost shine. Auto clear coats are done with 2000 grit these days and they almost look like a mirror before polishing.JT.

You know, I read JT's message and my poor brain went "HUH!" I was thinking, "Hmmm, I'm definitely in the wrong thread - we've gone from Volcano's to cars and I didn't even catch the switch! Must be a testosterone thing!" http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif Had to go back and re-read your message, Dogg to catch up.
Any way, enjoy your new toy. I'll continue to pop by and read the messages but definitely have nothing to contribute. Now, wonder if I can find any volcano jokes...or maybe orbs??? Nah, the latter is just a little too Freudian. http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

well tweakthis. Here (http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/r_golden_orb/index.shtml)is what the Golden Orb looks like. I cut a hole in the side of my machine and inserted smoked glass and a small light so I could see mine. That sucker is Fine. The cutout and the vent holes look factory..Beautiful..Just Beautiful..I`m impressed..
Sorry tweakster, I kind of rambled. The mention of lapping and the grit of the sandpaper got me to thinking about smoothness. Since I have sanded and polished many a cars, that`s where I wound up.JT.

Hmmm I just cut a round hole directly above mine and droped a section of an old pringles can down on top so it sucks air from outside the case right into the fan. (then I covered this with a filter and grill) Then opened some 1 inch holes in the other side of the case alowing the hsf to pump air freely throught the case so I don't need any additional case fans.
The temps I listed is after playing my game (Demise) and belive me it will stress any computer.
