cd burner hookup

I am installing a CD burner, and I have a question. Which is the slave and which is the master, the burner or the cd rom????

I have always enjoyed the results of posting problems on here, but this time I was very disappointed. I have yet to recieve a response. I do not think I will bother again.

Gooday sweetpooh,

I have only just spotted your post. I have never known anyone to have to wait so long.
There is no hard and fast rule as to what is the master and what is the slave. It all depends how you are connecting them in your computer. Normally you have one of them on the same cable as your C drive normally the Primary connector on your motherboard. In this way whatever you have connected to the same IDE cable as the C drive will be the Slave. ie C drive is the master and CDrom is the slave. The CDRW if on the secondary IDE connector on its own will be the Master. There is several combinations you can use. But normally there is only one Master on each of the IDE connectors. If you should want to install both CDrom and CDRW on one IDE connector it does not matter which is the Master or Slave. I hope this is of somehelp. Sorry you have had to wait so long.
Perhaps someone here can put it a bit clearer than I.

DO NOT put a cd drive of any kind on with your Hard Disk drive put them both (CD's) on the secondary IDE or it will slow down your Hard Disk drive. It realy doesn't mater which is master and slave I always just set the burrner as master but for no real reason.
