Hi,

I've downloaded an .asf streaming media video file and I need to convert it to either an .avi or .mpeg file format. Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Keith, welcome to .hft. I'm sorry, I have no advice for your problem. I'm moving this to software where I'm sure you'll have a better chance at getting an answer.

Second thoughts:IrfanView (http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/english.htm) is the only programme that pops to my mind. I've not used it but it's been recommended by several members. Also, you might pop by One Human's (http://www.geocities.com/one_human/index2.html) website; there might be other proggies listed there. One Human is also an hft member. http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Yep, I would also suggest IrfanView. It supports .avi and .mpeg, but not .asf. What is the full name of .asf? You might try it to see if it will work though...

Thanks for the link to IrfanView. Cool piece of software but it doesn't convert ASF files.

ASF is Microsoft's new streaming multimedia format - simlar to MPEG4 but specifically designed for streaming movies.

If you don`t have a pressing need to convert this file extension, it looks as though it may become an industry standard with others switching to this format. Usually when MS pushes for a change they block all of the other exits. Check it out.JT.

TMPGenc is included in this zip file: http://doom9.org/Soft/Packs/svcdpack-2.zip
- it allows you to convert from one video format to another, including support for .avi .mpeg .mpg .asf .wmv formats.
Loads of video editing/ripping info at: http://doom9.org
