View Full Version : Unknown monitor on unknown device

That's what the control panel/display/setting under monitor is telling me. I don't have any other option except 16 bit. In the system/device manager/display adapter, there's the dreaded yellow ! sign next to my Matrox Mill. PCI driver. In properties, it tells me that the device is working fine but there's a problem with the main display adapter (which I don't know what that is!).
I have SiS 620/5595 video adapter and monitor is Digiview HR 75. I have even tried using standard VGA drivers but to no avail!
This is actually my spare HD that I just put in today. My previous one rattles like a runaway train, taking all the memory with it and now won't even run anymore. A PC problem day it is for me!
Help anyone?

I don't think the "unknown monitor" matters much. Mine always says that and I never see any difference if I do go and find a driver that will show it as what it is.
Do you also have onboard video? If so, disable it in the bios or device manager and re-install the drivers for the Matrox. Make sure it's in PCI slot 1.
If I'm way off the mark here about your video, give us a bit more system information.

Hi,
Could be something simple, like you don't have the correct drivers for your monitor. Do a search on Google, you should be able to find the drivers that way. Install them, then change the monitor settings. I've a friend that always brings me second hand stuff to get up and running. The monitors are always a few years old and I'm always having to search out the proper drivers to solve the same problem you seem to be having.

Your Sis is your on board I assume, some motherboards ask in your bios wich device you wii use for your video. But as pure Luck says you need to disable it from your MB. but also check to see if it asks which device you want to use, some have it, some dont.
