View Full Version : System Reboots when I insert a blank CD

I was not sure exactly where to put this. But often (a lot) when I insert a blank CD into the burner, CD-R or CD-RW, the system reboots.
I have a 350 P II, 258 RAM, The DMA is not checked off. I am running Windows ME.
I just reformatted. I have EZCD and WinOnCD installed, plus the other things like CDRWin, MusicMatch....
In the toolbar I have DirectCD and EZCD.
This problem seems to occur in spurts. It will do this one day and drive me crazy and then not do it for several days or weeks.
I can live with it I suppose but if anybody has a solution please let me know

http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/hi.gif Welcome to the board jamtart! I recognize that nic from VirtualDr.

I honestly don't have a solution for you, but I didn't want you to think we were ignoring you.

Does this only happen when you blank cd's in? What if you ran the cd-rw exclusively for a week and used it as a cd-rom... would your computer reboot just putting a regular cd in too?

Could it possibly be that some of the burner programs are conflicting with each other? I think EZCD and Direct CD are pretty picky about having other burner software installed also. Or maybe I'm thinking of Nero. Either way, your machine is probably trying to figure out which program it should use, maybe un-install all but one program and then see what happens. If it solves it, add them back one at a time.

Well I too am thinking that it is a program conflict that rears it ugly head once in a while. At the moment all is fine, of course that was bound to happen now that I posted my concern on the net. I think it is playing with me. Before I reformatted I had installed Nero to see what it was like. Mistake. Even though Nero is not supposed to cause any problems with DirectCD 5 it just stopped working and nothing I did helped.
But for now the issue is not causing me any grief.
Newgrl,I came to to this one after you helped me out at Virtual Doctor. Thanks for all the input on this topic. Hopefully I can lend a hand somewhere some time too.
