Where is it? I had it. I've read about it (in this forum: http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000052.html ). I've looked. Now I can't find it!

Any help would be appreciated.

Glad you found it. http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Also, keep Zone Alarm (http://www.zonealarm.com) in mind too. In many cases, ZA is better than Black Ice.

Just adding my 2 cents..

I was looking at that! I'll have to try it.

Do you think it's worth the price to pay for it?

I'm still running the FREE personal version that's available. If you go to their site you'll see links to download either one. I haven't tried the PRO version yet, so I'm not real sure as to what the main differences are. Download the FREE version and give it a run. There's nothing to lose.

Go to GRC and give both of them a test. Try the tests before and after installing Zone Alarm. Click on the banner that says "Shields UP": http://grc.com/default.htm

Also from what I read about Black Ice (I've never personally used it), it only blocks incoming connections. Not outgoing. But, Zone Alarm blocks incoming AND outgoing connections. So, you are also protected from spy-ware programs that "phone home".

Here (http://www.helpfromtechs.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000021.html) is a partial list of spyware programs out there.

BlackICE defender is an IDS (intrusion Detection System). Using this, one should be afraid of outgoing traffic from trojansevers far more...they too will not be stopped.

The free portscan from Steve Gibson at ShieldsUp will only test 10 minor ports from the 65,536. There's a far better - free - one, testing approx. 4,000 ports, at
http://www.sdesign.com/securitytest/index.html

Pick the "full scan" option.

cheers,
