Hey, you stole my opening line ... "Hi there". ;) Welcome to HFT online. :hi:
Perhaps I enjoyed more halloween fun than I intended, or thought, ....
edit: well obviously there was something in my candy, cause I didn't even partake of the grapes last night. Thanks pure luck for figuring out the problem. I'm going back to my own sandbox. ;)

According to these faq's (http://www.ust.hk/itsc/msoffice/office2000/FAQ.htm):
Office 97 applications, with the exception of Access, can open Office 2000 files without a converter. (Formatting that Office 97 doesn’t recognize won be retained.) Unlike Access 97, Access 2000 supports the Unicode file format. So Access 2000 files have to be saved as Access 97 files in order to be compatible.
Also found elsewhere:
Note that files produced in Office 2000 are compatible with Office 97 for Word, Excel and Powerpoint, but if you convert an Access 97 database to Access 2000, then you will not be able to open the database in Access 97 in the future.
Sounds like Access 97 is the only Office 97 app that won't open an Office 2000 file.
